Lutron Expands in Canada

Lutron has chosen Canada for its first international Experience Center. The center, which is located in Markham, ON, will showcase a variety of wireless lighting and shading control solutions for commercial spaces.

“We recognize the importance of Toronto as an international specification location and wanted to add the appropriate resources to best serve our Canadian customers,” says Tom Ike, Vice President of Global Sales at Lutron. “We look forward to growing our presence here and servicing this important market.”

Ground-breaking on the Canadian facility, a commercial experience center and specification office, began this month. The 2,800 sq-foot space, certified as LEED Gold, will celebrate its grand opening this summer. Peter Saccomanno, Vice-President and General Manager of Lutron Electronics Canada Inc. says the facility will include numerous Lutron control solutions including the Quantum® total light management system, EcoSystem® and more.

“Lighting uses about 39 percent of annual electricity in a typical commercial building,” Ike says. “Showing our Canadian customers how Lutron solutions can reduce this figure and save energy is a win for everyone.”

Although the Canadian facility will be Lutron’s eighth Experience Center in North America, it will be the first outside the United States. Other centers, dating back to 2001, are located in Plantation, FL; New York City; Coopersburg, PA; Seattle, WA; Irvine, CA; and Washington, D.C.

Next Generation Luminaires Indoor Winners Announced

The fifth annual Next Generation LuminairesTM (NGL) Solid-State Lighting Design Competition has recognized 28 commercial LED indoor lighting products for excellence. The winners were announced on March 20, 2013, at the LEDucation 7 lighting conference in New York.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and the International Association of Lighting Designers, NGL was launched in 2008 to promote excellence in the design of energy-efficient LED luminaires for general illumination in commercial lighting applications. The competition began evaluating indoor and outdoor products separately in 2012.

A total of 156 products were proposed for submission to the 2013 NGL indoor competition. However, only 99 actually made it to the judging phase with market-ready samples and complete documentation (including luminaire and component specification sheets, LM-79 test reports, lumen maintenance projections, warranty statements, and marketing materials). These documents help make sure that actual performance matches what’s claimed, and this year, for the first time, they were submitted through DOE’s LED Lighting Facts® program, in order to reduce the entry effort and ensure consistency of data.

Using the facilities of Intelligent Lighting Creations in Arlington Heights, IL, all 99 products were judged over the course of two days in their characteristic installations, including varying mounting heights and ceiling conditions. The judges identified 28 products as Recognized, meaning that they were considered worthy of specification in the application for which they were designed. From the 28 recognized products, three were given the additional designation of Best in Class, meaning that they stood out significantly above the other recognized products in their category. Four additional products, which were not otherwise recognized, were designated by the judges as Notable for their ability to adjust color temperature in typical white-light applications.

The Best in Class winners came from three different manufacturers and covered three areas of lighting:

-Juno Lighting Group was selected for its Trac-Master T254L Cylindra™ track-mounted accent luminaire

-Digital Lumens for its XLE-3-10 Xpress high-bay industrial luminaire

-Acuity Brands/Lithonia Lighting for its W Series LED stairwell luminaire.

Kim lighting expands microemitter® LED offering with bounce® lLED, era® lantern LED, entablature® LED and matrix LED

Kim Lighting, the premiere manufacturer of architectural outdoor lighting, announces the launch of its Bounce® LED, The Entablature® LED, Era® Lantern LED and Matrix LED luminaires and Matrix and The Entablature® HID to LED upgrade kits for area, site, and street applications. Era® Lantern LED is a transitionally styled luminaire that complements both traditional and contemporary architectural themes. Era Lantern LED adds a new dimension to applying the superior performance of Kim’s exclusive MicroEmitter® LED technology system.

Bounce® LED is a clean cylindrical form that harmonizes diverse architectural environments. The Bounce LED product line is designed to surpass tough demands, such as energy efficiency, glare control, light trespass, aesthetics and structural integrity.

Entablature® LED can be whatever the specifier wants it to be; a contemporary box luminaire reflecting the latest in industrial design, or an intriguing extension of the surrounding architecture.

Matrix LED Series is a comprehensive product family offering a wide range of mounting and performance features. The symmetric square body, pyramid roof, and fine detail produce luminaires of exceptional design flexibility. Matrix LED is Kim’s only square post top product capable of covering the center areas of large parking lots with one luminiare.

Bounce® LED, Era® Lantern LED, Entablature® LED and Matrix LED employ Kim Lighting’s exclusive MicroEmitter technology, which features unparalleled ability to capture and harness light using a patent pending optical system. The MicroEmitter optic shapes, directs, and tightly controls the beam of individual clusters of LEDs. The result is light placed only where it is needed, creating superior uniformity by minimizing overlapping horizontal footcandles, and in turn reducing energy waste. Furthermore the Entablature® LED and Matrix LED all feature an upgradeable EmitterDeck®, which allows for easy change-out in the field for existing HID Entablature® and Matrix installations and as LED technology advances.

Lightolier MultiSet™ and MultiSet™ Pro offer a full range of dimming solutions that can meet any budget.

Rivaling the features and capacity of larger and costlier dimming systems, MultiSet and MultiSet Pro from Lightolier Controls provide stylish, flexible and highly economical multi-scene dimming for commercial and residential installations.

The MultiSet and MultiSet Pro system of dimmers and master controls provide 5 or 13 lighting scenes with up to 60,000 watts of dimming capabilities. Both systems are designed to be easy to install, easy to program and easy to use. Standard junction boxes and 3-wire technology allows fast installations with a single “purple wire” that connects the master control station to the dimmers. This dedicated line voltage wire allows up to 30 MultiSet/MultiSet Pro dimmers and master control stations to be interconnected. This system provides total design flexibility with the choice of 10 different load types including fluorescent, electronic Low Voltage, non-dim and 3-speed fan controls.

Pre-setting lighting levels is a simple, three-step process with MultiSet and MultiSet Pro. A touch of the "scene" button on the master control station allows the user to adjust each dimmer to the desired lighting level. Then, a touch of the "set" button on each dimmer sets the desired lighting level for that fixture. When the "scene" button is touched again, the lighting in the entire room adjusts to the preset levels selected.

Elegant fade rates can be easily programmed for each dimmer and each scene. MultiSet allows programmed fade rates from 3 to 15 seconds while MultiSet Pro increases the range from 1.5 seconds to 1 hour. MultiSet and MultiSet Pro master keypads are available with a built-in infrared receiver to accept commands from an optional Lightolier hand-held remote control. Custom engraving of control buttons is also an available option.

Designed for schools, conference rooms, board rooms, restaurants, banquet rooms, houses of worship and residences, MultiSet and MultiSet Pro can cover a majority of day-to-day dimming needs. When compared to more expensive systems, MultiSet can maintain the integrity of the project while allowing more time for lighting design since spec time is shorter.

Designed to enhance the style and functionality of any décor, MultiSet and MultiSet Pro put advanced dimming capabilities within the reach of virtually any budget.
